Hi there !

I come back to you to present my new army project =]

This thread is a assembly/painting log.

I want to make something different since my northern army

The core idea is to make mounts colored and weathered like construction plants. Many yellow / brown / rust =]

Actually, since they're called bug walkers, I think Caterpillars would be a better regiment name.

These are going to be awesome. Are you going to make custom bases for them?

Yes i'll post something about the base soon.

I have cast some large hexagon with resin, the ground texture is made with tile adesive and the rock with slate.

Do you know some other references mixing mecha and constuction plants?

Thanks !

This is definitely very cool looking! Between this and Paradox getting us all to look at Fighting Pirannha's decals I keep thinking of building a BT/Mount force and have the mounts marked with FG's nose art decals...
Shameless promotion: I made this and I'm working on this!
Notice: I say a lot of random stuff and am in no way speaking for Dream Pod 9.
If I'm talking in italics it probably means I'm doing Mod stuff.

Hello =]

This this my method to make some large Hex Base :

* First of all the tools : [ Liquid bi coponant crystal resin ( Mix two part of resin for one of hardener ) ]

Posted Image

* Vaseline Oil and Old Brush ( to lubricate the mold )

Posted Image

* Syringe ( to put the mixed resin onto the mold )

Posted Image

The mold is a reversed plastic base of a cheap soft plastic manga figure ( like a big gashapon )

And that is the result 24h after the casting :

Posted Image

=> on the left in black : the empty mold

On the middle and right : 2 casted bases =]

Stay tuned for the texturing of my caprician large hex bases =P

(and sorry for my poor english )

Awesome work David!!!

Those bases look great, and I really like the theme for your army, they'll look like re-purposed mining vehicles which is made of win.

Well, I managed to snare Unclean into obsession with the BergeLuther by Paolo Parente's DUST, and now I've fallen victim too. Ordered mine last night, and now I want to convert my Bashans to engineering mounts with drills and shovels.

I think a construction-themed army is going to totally rock Caprice.

It's always a nice theme! My MILICIA regiment has two engineering companies attached to it which (sometime in the future) will have converted construction vehicle and of course engineering Gears! :)

Now, lets see more Caprician stuff! :P

I know I'm probably getting a reputation for going tangetal, but... somebody mentioned Fighting Pirannha... I've heard of them once or twice. Anybody have an opinion of them? seems mostly battletech emblems on their site, at the moment...

They seem 'OK', to me. I get the impression they're inkjet-printed (albeit the cool professional kind of inkjet which can print white) rather than screen-printed, which means that they'll be stippling non-primary colours (blending them from patterns of dots of primary colours close together), but they're not bad. Their monochrome stuff is pretty good, in my experience, and they transfer better than a lot of decals I've used (but not as good as the best). The main thing I have against them is that they apparently can't spell 'piranha'.

DP9's decals are made by Fighting Pirannha, so if you want a better idea, go look at the photos of those on the store site.
Ah, it's a good day to be a republican. Not that there are bad days!

I used to get a company called Griffon Games to make my decals for 40k, and they were great. The online shop was easy to use (i.e. none of this "email us a list of what you want and how many complete with product numbers and we'll get back to you" crap), and all you had to do was send them a pic and the scale you were using it for (WH40k, FoW, whatever), and they'd print a sheet and email a photo of it back to you. The sheets even had various size decals for use on individual soldiers, vehicles, banners, etc.

Unfortunately, they've since changed their name and I haven't quite figured out how to use their services. They still sell decals, but I can't decipher whether or not they still make custom sheets or not.

Yup. I think they use an Alps printer which can do a layer of white. They're a small operation (as in, "Small enough the Pod can occasionally try to push them") but unfortunately doing a full print run of deals by non-inkjet methods would be hideously expensive, especially if there wasn't solid demand. Using FP they can be done relatively economically.

So do they make custom decals, too, or just what they already sell? Not much of what they have for sale is really all that useful to me. The few minis I made, ages ago, were sufficiently decorated by the decals that came with them. I figured if I ordered that decal set in the store, that'd be enough. Except for any non standard insignias or something..

I don't have mod powers, but we should move this into a new thread: Custom Decals
