Hi All,

We have decided to hold a Heavy Gear Blitz Army Painting Contest. This time we wanted to tie it into the tournaments we are are running at conventions this summer, to encourage players to paint up their armies. So, we want you to design a 800 TV max, Priority Level 3 Army, which is normally around 2 or 3 squads. You can use the Gear Garage program found on the Forum to make designing your army easy. The contest will start today (May 6th) and you'll have 2 months to get your army painted up and photos taken. Final submissions will be due in before Wednesday July 7th at midnight EST. Judging will take place by our staff on July 8th & 9th and the winners will be announce on Saturday, July 10. Prizes will be awarded for Best Painted Army 1st Place ($50 gift certificate for the DP9 Online Store) & 2nd Place ($35 gift cert.) and for Best Painted Army Commander 1st Place ($30 gift cert.) & 2nd Place ($20 gift cert.).

Here is what we would like to see in the way of photos, they can be with or without scenery whatever you think looks best:
A group photo of the entire army.
A close-up of the just the army commander.
And 2 other close-ups of your best looking units from the army, so we can better see the paint job.

If you don't have the time get a complete army painted up you can just enter your individual army commander in the contest.

For those of you having trouble taking good photos of miniatures, here is good tip, you need lots of light to take good photos, mainly lighting from the front top, front left and front right to reduce shadows, which make it very difficult to see details on the miniature photos. Flashes tend to washout the colors of the paint job, so we would not suggest using them. Once you have your 4 Photos taken you can email them to me at rdubois@dp9.com and I'll be forwarding them to the staff for Judging.

Everyone have fun, we look forward to all your entries. :D

Are conversions allowed? I would assume yes since there's no "out of the box" rule written but I just wanted to be sure. :)

Excellent, I need to get my minis painted up anyways, for the Brothers Grim tourney and Dexcon. I'll do my best but doult I can out do some of the master painters I've seen in the Mini sub forum. Contest are always an awesome way to encourage, excite and support a gaming community. Just one more reason to  DP9.

Is it okay if some of the miniatures have been already painted and seen online, or do they need to be new?

Entering miniatures that have already been painted and shown online is fine as long as they have not been entered into one of Dream Pod 9's previous painting contests.

Do they have to be blitz era minis?

(I'm asking as a judge)

If that means our painting is going to be compared to yours, I might as well forego entering.

Only the Heavy Gear or Heavy Gear Blitz 1/144 scale minis done by Dream Pod 9 please, not the old 1/87 scale by Rafm. Conversions are allowed as long as they are still legal weapon loads under the Heavy Gear Blitz Locked & Loaded Rules. The idea of the contest is to have players paint up an army they can use to play at local tournaments. If you want to cut up the legs and arms and glue the miniature into a more dramatic pose go right ahead.

Also, Mason is part of the DP9 Staff and will be helping to judge the contest, so you all don't have to worry about matching his amazing painting. :P

I'm curious about the PL3 requirement for both the tournament and the painting contest. Is it mainly to lock out the Leagueless?

Also, I don't see myself entering a single Iguana as opposed to a whole army. I'd feel a little sore if my army lost against a single miniature, so I don't think I wanna go there. Maybe there ought to be an army/combat group category and a single mini category...

Two months, I should be able to get at least a commander out in that time. Now I have to get off my rup and find a good looking winter camo scheme to basterdize. Or I could just paint them in my Space Wolves colors... So may options and only two months to pick.

I'd like to enter this, but I'm too embarrassed to show my minis in the painting forum, let alone enter them in a competition.

If you look at the timing, it's to encourage people to show up at The Americain Championships at GenCon with painted armies.

Can post-1940 upgrades be taken?

Never mind my question, I went a different way for my army selection. :)
