Hi all,

Dream Pod 9 is proud to announce that we will be holding the first ever Heavy Gear Blitz! Demo Video Contest!

The goal is to produce the best 10 minute video you can showing how the game is played. The main core game mechanics must be present and the information must be succinct and easy to grasp. The idea is to allow someone with no knowledge of Heavy Gear to get a good idea of how the game is played.

Here are the compulsory content:

-What Heavy Gear Blitz! is.
-Heavy Gear miniatures (demo GPs) With terrain setup.
-Dice rolling (opposed system)
-Initiative
-Movement and Cover
-Attacks and damage (and all associated modifiers, back shots, in the open etc.)
-Reaction fire (why giving away initiative may be a good thing)

Here are optional content:

- ROF's uses
- Melee and Hand Grenades
- Squad tactics like Coordinate fire
- FO and IF

To enter, participant must post the video on You Tube or any other similar site and link the post along with your name, address and email to john.nguyen@dp9.com

Contest deadline is on September 10 2010. We will announce the winner a week after the deadline. Judging will be done by senior Pod staff.

Up for grabs is:

First place: 60$ certificate to our online store.
Second place: 40$ certificate to our online store.

Oh, I thought it was an announcement thread and you couldn't reply to it B)
But this is a really great idea as a newbie still learning the rules and coming into the game this was just what our gaming group was searching high and low for. But there was nothing to be found.

Who you tellin'? I had some major dental work so I wasn't able to finish painting my minis. I'm going to start filming tomorrow. If I don't like it, I'll have next week to try again.

Thanks. My mom called me Iron Man because I refused to take aspirin or the painkillers i was prescribed. lol last week i had deep cleaning and a filling (monday); a tooth filled and all four of my wisdom teeth extracted (friday) and the week before I had six fillings and a root canal (one sitting). I just want to get SOMETHING done. I'm sick and tired of seeing 40k and Warmachine all over youtube.

Better off without those painkillers probably... the ones my dentist prescribed made me sick to my stomach for days.

But yeah, I know what you mean... laying around, not well enough/too exhausted to be creative, and yeah, I agree, any publicity (albeit hopefullly good publicity) for the Pod is a good thing.

Yeah. Not to echo what they already said, but some of us labored under having no money and no insurance for a long time before we got up the nerve and money to get things fixed. Wonderous brushes or not.

Yeah, 10 minutes to demo Heavy gear Blitz really means focusing on one or two core concepts, I think.
Shameless promotion: I made this and I'm working on this!
Notice: I say a lot of random stuff and am in no way speaking for Dream Pod 9.
If I'm talking in italics it probably means I'm doing Mod stuff.

See the videos for Infinty that Corvus Belli put out on their youtube page; they pretty much hit the nail on the head on what a demo video should convey to the audience.

I think if someone focused on the basic rules (nothing past page 30), it could be done. Give a quick overview of a datacard and the Blitz dice, then demoed a single turn between two GP Squads, it could be done in 10 minutes.

It'd be tight, of course, because in even the shortest demo I ran at GenCon I spent about 7-8 minutes just giving a brief on the background of Terra Nova, but that could be a separate video all on its own.
